I had the opportunity to attend a workshop hosted by Elizabeth Luna at The Condor Nest Ranch down in Pala. The morning of the event, we initially anticipated a very long drive down there due to traffic. Because of this, we decided to leave at 5 A.M., which turned out to be a much shorter drive. We arrived in Pala around 7 and decided to spend some time at the local Starbucks since the event did not start for another few hours. On our way to the ranch our GPS led us to a gated community, but after some adjustments to the GPS we were able to arrive there shortly.

It’s been awhile since I’ve spoken to my former colleague and friend, Kevin Wong, the co-founder of Immersive Tech. After catching up through severals emails, I had told Kevin that I had been involved more with photography and have been busy developing Brandon David Photographers. Weeks later, Kevin asked me if we would be able to capture an event that is paramount to his non-profit organization. As we discussed the details more over a cup of Joe and learning more about Kevin’s company, Brandon and I gladly accepted.

I had to get the 24-70mm f/2.8 serviced today in order to have it ready for a shoot, so I decided to drop it off at Nikon’s service center down in El Segundo.  It would have been a bit cheaper to just send it there in a insured box, but because I am a big fan of Nikon I really wanted to see how their office was like.  The place itself is rather easy to find; it was only a few minutes from the 405 freeway.  Being excited to see the office for the first time, I wasted a few minutes looking for parking in a parking structure across the street until I realized there was ample parking right next to their office.

Brandon and I, accompanied by Brandon’s brother Nick, had quite an interesting, busy weekend shooting such a great engagement session for my cousin, Sheryllene and her fiancé, Tony. Being the fun, bright, happy person she is and the movie-loving cinematographer he is, we decided to take a trip down to Universal Studio’s City Walk. Not having been to City Walk for quite some time, it was almost like things never changed. Lots of great locations to shoot and have fun. After about 2 hours of doing work, we ended up with dinner, then turned in for the night.

Sher and Tony, thanks for such a great time. I can’t wait for the wedding celebration!!!

What a great day to shoot! Not too hot and the lighting was just right. Cheryl & I decided to head over to her sister Sharon’s house for dinner. As I could see that I was losing light fast, I decided to take pictures of such a little bundle of joy! This was such a fun shoot for being last minute. Not much directing and shooting as “Johnny-On-The-Spot” made it feel like I had not much time to prepare. But here we go…

Pesh and I headed over to the LA Shoot This! event coordinated by Joelle Leder and held in Balboa Island, Ca. It wasn’t your typical sunny California afternoon. Today was chilly, gloomy, and unwelcoming. The shivering models nevertheless still gave it their all until the closing sunset and we ended the afternoon with a few nice images.

Many thanks to Joelle for putting this all together and our sponsor Canvas on Demand.

A week ago at the Alice in Wonderland shoot, I met again with good friend and great photographer Mike Pesh. He invited me over to spend the weekend with him and his family, and also tag along for a vintage styled shoot of his daughter Gracie that he and Renee’ (ocPropgirl) set up. Pesh and his wonderful wife Heather were amazingly humble and generous while I was there. After the shoot, we hung out and had a few brews while watching the MMA fight that Mike Colon was covering. We talked much about Brazilian Ju-Jujitsu, life, family, religion, photography, and business – pretty much everything! I can’t thank the Pesh family enough for such a wonderful experience. Thanks again you Mike & Heather!
