Bridal Fashion | Condor Nest Ranch – Past & Present

I had the opportunity to attend a workshop hosted by Elizabeth Luna at The Condor Nest Ranch down in Pala. The morning of the event, we initially anticipated a very long drive down there due to traffic. Because of this, we decided to leave at 5 A.M., which turned out to be a much shorter drive. We arrived in Pala around 7 and decided to spend some time at the local Starbucks since the event did not start for another few hours. On our way to the ranch our GPS led us to a gated community, but after some adjustments to the GPS we were able to arrive there shortly.
When I registered for the shoot, I did not know what to expect as I have never done a photo workshop before. All that I knew was that it was going to be at a ranch with a bunch of other photographers that were there to learn and help each other out. The ranch totally blew away my expectations. The house had an interesting Western theme that also flowed with everything else on the ranch. In addition the ranch a spectacular view, even with the thick marine layer coming in. The place itself was built many years ago but has had upgrades done to it to make it seem like it was built not too long ago. It was a perfect place for social events not only because of its size, but also because it seemed like everything in the ranch had a story to it. Within a short time more people arrived and we were able to begin forming our groups for the day.
As we all conversed and introduced ourselves to each other I was a bit nervous yet very excited for it all to begin. I didn’t have any experience with posing, so it was a challenge for me when they opened up the floor for people to set up the models in the poses they wanted them in. Throughout the day I felt as if I had a mental block the whole day that prevented me from being able to get creative with the models. But even with that, I didn’t let that stop me from trying to work on my craft and get better shots than I expected. The models there were very friendly and helped make things feel more natural. The fellow photographers in our group were also pretty friendly and had some interesting ideas for posing.
This event was a complete learning experience for me. Thanks to this workshop I have a better understanding of posing as well as a better understanding for what other little details I should be paying attention to. I’d like to say a special thanks to Liz for putting this all together and everyone else at the event that made this possible.
